A rose - your heart's desire!
You look out for me even though -
Appearances can oft be deceptive.
Making you happy, makes me happy
& today thou art hundred leagues and more away,
My ring will bring you back if you so will it -
Will you win this battle of wills?
Be as true-hearted as you are beautiful?
Will you return to stay willingly with me forever?
I beg you not to desert me
Until you have saved me from my cruel misery

Appearances can often be deceptive, said a friend once to me. And this tale of "The Beauty & The Beast" is the best example of that. In fact I believe that most modern day romance novels - from the MBs of our childhood to the harlequins of our youth revolved around a story where the guy was for all practical purposes a beast - if not in looks then in attitude. And slowly and surely the girl's love turned him into a handsome prince. A handsome prince being just a euphemism for a lover who is the epitome of all qualities a little girl dreams of for her future suitor.
When Bella's father tries to take a rose from The Beast's garden without permission, The Beast makes him promise to send his beloved daughter to The Beast's castle forever. This poem I have written from the Beast's perspective as he waits for Bella to return back from her supposed short visit to her family. The Beast in his own way loves Bella and truly tries to accommodate each & every of her wish.
He even consents to send her home to see her family when he sees how melancholy she becomes. However, her being apart from him is breaking his heart. He had given her a ring which can bring her back to him if she wishes so. The Beast knows, only true unconditional love can save him and turn him to his true form. But will she want to leave her family and come back to live with The Beast willingly ever? This is the dilemma he goes through.
