A towering hall hidden in trees
A hundred years have come and gone
And still similar visions are on
Cursed and blessed at the moment of my birth
My knight in shining armour is still at his hearth
Time unbound I await
My destiny to change
Poseidon - the God of the Sea, the father of all creatures in the sea including the 'little mermaid', who has lived her entire life in the sea. These are general musings...
I used to love "The Sleeping Beauty" maybe because I once acted in a play in grade six where I played one of the twelve fairies invited to the celebrations of her birth. I gifted her "the wit of an angel"! ;) Alas, my acting prowess lasts only till there (and be glad for that!)
ReplyDeleteI have written this poem from the sleeping beauty's perspective who has been forced into a deep sleep lasting a hundred years because of "the curse of the spindle" put on her by the wicked fairy. We all dream when we sleep, some we remember, some we don't. (I don't remember most!) But if I had to fall asleep for hundred years I would rather it not be dreamless.
Sleeping Beauty, now if she had to dream, I am sure she would see spinning wheels! Afterall, wasn't one of them the cause for her fascination which ultimately led to this death like sleep, not even Hypnos, the God of Sleep, could wake her from? As Sleeping Beauty slept, so did her parents and all her subjects. The castle hid in trees, had vines climbing over its walls till it looked like a huge thatch of forest.
The prince has to travel to these forbidden lands and cut the hedges and get through to the palace tower. Finally he has to give the Sleeping Beauty "true love's kiss". Until then she awaits for him in her dreams!
"If I know you, I know what you'll do. You'll love me at once the way you did once upon a dream"
