Remaining unheard through the years
Warnings about a gift horse
My voice still ringing in deaf ears
Leading to destruction of my kin
In my arms, seeing a lover’s demise
With fear awaiting the day of my doom
Helpless and hapless, each morn I arise

"She who entangles men" - Cassandra. It is one of my favorite names as also she is my favorite character out of the Greek myth.
ReplyDeleteAs a daughter of Priam and Hecuba, she was a beautiful princess & seer in her own right who went on to become a priestess of Athena. When she had refused the advances of Apollo, she was cursed that no one would ever believe her prophecies. This tragic curse led her to foresee and predict each event of the Battle of Troy right from Helen's abduction by Paris till the fall of Troy by the Trojan Horse, but unfortunately she could not prevent any of these events as no one ever believed her.
Once Troy fell, she was raped by Ajax in the temple of Athena and later taken as a concubine by Agamemnon. (Athena on her part avenged her priestess by destroying Ajax and most Greeks who supported him). Cassandra foresaw Agamemnon's demise at the hands of his wife - Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus and subsequently her own death at the enraged wife's hands. In the end, she was helpless to do anything but wait in agony as her death approached her.
"Sorry Cassandra I misunderstood. Now the last day is dawning. Some of us wanted but none of us could.
Sorry Cassandra I didn't believe, you really had the power. I only saw it as dreams you would weave, until the final hour"
